Designed specifically for high-performance engines with large cylinder bores, the S&S Cycle Engine Case part number 31-0047 offers exceptional durability and precision engineering. This case is engineered to accommodate a 4-inch bore size, with a cam chest moved outward by 0.250 inches to facilitate larger crankcases and allow for strokes up to 5 inches. Its robust construction ensures reliable operation under demanding conditions, making it ideal for custom builds and racing applications. The case features a relocated cam chest oil pick-up, which enhances gear case scavenging and virtually eliminates oil carry-over during sustained high-speed riding, promoting engine longevity and consistent performance. It is machined to accept the stock oil filter assembly used on '92-'99 Big Twins, maintaining compatibility with original equipment components. An integrated ported breather passageway and a machined breather window enable efficient airflow from the flywheel cavity to the cam chest with minimal restriction, helping to optimize engine breathing and reduce pressure build-up. Venting can be achieved via two crankcase breathers, the cylinder heads, or both, with S&S recommending the use of both for engines larger than 95 cubic inches to ensure optimal venting. The deck height is 5.875 inches, providing a solid foundation for high-performance modifications. Made in the USA, this case is machined to accommodate a crank position sensor, facilitating EFI applications and enabling easy installation of S&S IST Ignition and VFI Fuel Injection systems. A plug kit is included for applications that do not utilize a crank position sensor. All S&S crankcases manufactured after June 1, 2008, feature a flat case mating surface without a case interlock groove or ring, simplifying installation and alignment with the use of dowels. Engineered for special applications, the S&S Cycle Engine Case combines precision manufacturing with versatile features to meet the demands of high-performance Big Twin builds.
