Armor & Protective Gear

Body Armor & Protective Gear

Helmets get all the attention, but the armor you wear on your body is what stands between you and serious injury when things go wrong off the bike. Mad Lads Moto stocks a full range of body armor and protective gear for every riding discipline: chest protectors and roost deflectors for MX and off-road riders, CE-certified back protectors for street and ADV riders, neck braces for motocross and enduro racers, knee and shin guards, shoulder armor, elbow guards, and full upper body protection systems. Whether you are racing at the local track, charging technical enduro terrain, or putting in miles on the highway, the right protective gear keeps critical impact zones covered without sacrificing mobility or comfort on the bike.

Do I need a chest protector if my jacket already has armor?

Jacket armor and a dedicated chest protector serve different purposes. Jacket armor is designed primarily for abrasion and impact protection in a street riding crash scenario, covering shoulders, elbows, and back. A dedicated chest protector is built specifically for roost deflection, frontal impact absorption, and rib protection in off-road and motocross environments where rocks, debris, and handlebar impacts are constant hazards. If you are riding off-road or motocross, a dedicated chest protector worn over or under your jersey provides significantly more frontal and rib protection than jacket armor alone. For street and ADV riding, a CE Level 2 back protector combined with shoulder and elbow armor in your jacket covers the primary impact zones for pavement crashes.

Are neck braces necessary for motocross and enduro riding?

Neck braces are not legally required but are strongly recommended for motocross racing, enduro, and aggressive off-road riding where high-speed crashes and handlebar impacts are real risks. A neck brace works by limiting the range of motion of the cervical spine during a crash, reducing the load transferred to the neck and upper spine in a compression or lateral impact event. They are designed to work in conjunction with a chest protector, not as a standalone device, so the combination of a properly fitted neck brace and a compatible chest protector is essential for the system to function correctly. For youth riders and racers of any age competing at speed, a neck brace is one of the highest-value protective investments available.
