The S&S CYCLE 551G Gear Drive Camshaft Kit is engineered for engines with 96 to 106 cubic inch displacement and a compression ratio between 9:1 and 9.9:1. Designed as a bolt-in replacement, this kit is suitable for stock or mildly modified touring bikes, delivering enhanced performance and durability. Its innovative design reverses the rear cam’s rotation, providing increased operating clearance between cam lobes, which enables higher cam lifts and improved airflow. This results in increased power output across the entire RPM spectrum, with notable gains in low and midrange torque, especially from 1,000 to 4,000 RPM. The kit also improves valve timing accuracy by eliminating timing chain lash and accommodating loosely fit stock chains, contributing to more consistent engine operation. Installation requires removing material from the inner surface of the stock gear cover and the use of professional tools such as a hydraulic press. It is recommended to replace cam bearings and gaskets during installation to ensure optimal performance. For precise valve train operation, it's advised to check coil bind, valve-to-valve clearance, and valve-to-piston clearance. Due to the gear-driven design, some noise may be heard during operation, which is typical for gear drive systems. Made in the USA, this comprehensive kit includes inner and outer gears, inner and outer bearings, gaskets, and detailed instructions. For best results, S&S recommends using an adjustable pushrod and cover kit.
