The S&S CYCLE Cylinder Head Temp Sensor (Part Number 55-1014) is designed to provide accurate temperature monitoring for Harley Davidson engines, ensuring optimal performance and reliable operation. This temperature sensor works in conjunction with the S&S engine management system, which utilizes multiple sensors such as crank position, cam position (if present), MAP sensor, cylinder head temperature sensor, and an exclusive knock sensor. The knock sensor detects engine detonation and allows the ECU to automatically adjust ignition timing to eliminate knocking, optimizing both power and fuel efficiency. The sensor is designed for use in engines with crankshaft position sensors, although it is not recommended for kick-start applications unless a cam position sensor is installed. It’s important to note that this sensor is not intended for fuel-injected models, ensuring compatibility with specific Harley Davidson engines.
For enhanced ignition control, the S&S IST ignition modules manufactured after October 1, 2003, come equipped with software supporting the Guardian Diagnostic System, providing advanced troubleshooting capabilities. These modules are compatible with most applications, including certain 2004-05 models, depending on the serial number. An optional high-output coil is also available, featuring two separate coils in a single package with a coil impedance of 3 ohms per coil, designed specifically for the S&S Variable Fuel Injection System.
