The ProTaper KTM 50 SX Rear Aluminum Sprocket - 40 Teeth - Black is a Race Spec (RS) rear sprocket cut from 7075-T6 heat-treated billet aluminum and finished with a deep-penetrating anodized coating that resists corrosion and improves wear resistance. ProTaper's angled mud grooves run on both sides of every tooth, creating a self-cleaning effect that sheds mud during operation and increases tooth surface area by up to 40 percent compared to competing sprockets, which ProTaper says extends sprocket life measurably. Countersinks built into the sprocket automatically center it to the hub at installation, so no separate hub center guide is needed. Made in the USA, this 40-tooth sprocket fits the KTM 50 SX as well as select Gas Gas, Husqvarna, and Triumph models.

A larger rear sprocket like this 40-tooth unit lowers overall gearing, which sharpens acceleration off the line at the cost of some top-end speed.
