The Alpinestars SM3 Youth Radium Helmet is specifically designed for young riders engaged in motocross, enduro, and off-road activities. Crafted with an anatomically engineered profile, this helmet offers a tailored fit for youth and younger riders, ensuring optimal comfort and safety during demanding rides. The lightweight thermo-injected shell features a specialized polymer blend with varied thicknesses to provide superior impact protection while minimizing weight, making it easier for young riders to wear for extended periods.
Constructed from impact-resistant thermoplastic in three distinct sizes—Youth Small, Youth Medium, and Youth Large—the SM3 Youth weighs approximately 2.3 pounds (1060g) for ECE certification and around 2.58 pounds (1170g) for DOT certification. The helmet includes separate shell versions to meet different safety standards, with the DOT version incorporating a composite fiber layer between the outer shell and EPS liner for enhanced impact absorption. The helmet’s fit is highly customizable thanks to replaceable crown and cheek pads of varying thicknesses, allowing for a tailored fit as the rider grows. Youth Small helmets can be adjusted via cheek pads, while Youth Medium and Large share the same EPS size, enabling growth adjustments over time.
Alpinestars has incorporated extensive research into impact absorption, including multiple density inner liners designed to optimize impact mitigation and reduce overall weight. The helmet’s surfaces are engineered to minimize oblique impact effects, and a patented low friction coating on the EPS liner acts as a slip plane, reducing rotational forces during oblique impacts—mirroring the body’s natural cerebrospinal fluid to protect the brain. The visor release system has been engineered with a pre-determined release force to reduce neck strain during impacts, increasing rider safety. Additionally, the interior comfort liner is made from eco-friendly recycled materials, and integrated hydration channels in the cheek pads enhance convenience and performance during extended rides.
For safety, the SM3 Youth meets both DOT and ECE 2206 standards and has undergone rigorous testing, including a new in-house standard for chin impact conditions. The helmet features an emergency release system with removable cheek pads for quick and safe removal, along with a soft textile chin strap for comfort and security. Stainless steel D-rings ensure a secure fit, and the helmet’s ventilation system boasts 10 intake ports and seven exhaust outlets, with the visor designed to channel airflow into these ports for optimal heat dissipation, keeping young riders cool during intense activities.
