Harley-Davidson & V-Twin Fairings and Windshields

Fairings and windshields define the silhouette of a V-Twin machine as much as any other single component. A well-chosen fairing transforms a naked Softail or Dyna into a purpose-built long-distance machine. The right windshield on a Touring bike is the difference between arriving fresh and arriving exhausted. Mad Lads Moto stocks inner fairings, outer fairings, batwing fairings, quarter fairings, headlight nacelles, replacement windshields, and windshield accessories for Harley-Davidson Softail, Touring, Dyna, Sportster, and FXR platforms and Indian V-Twin models. Whether you are adding wind protection to a bare-bones build, replacing cracked or faded OEM bodywork, or upgrading to a taller touring windshield for highway comfort, the right piece is here.

What windshield height is best for highway riding on a Harley-Davidson Touring bike?

Windshield height selection depends on your height, riding position, and whether you prefer to look through the shield or over it. A windshield that directs airflow over your head rather than into your chest reduces fatigue significantly on long highway miles but can create turbulence at helmet level if it is too tall for your height. The general rule is that the top of the windshield should sit at approximately chin height when you are in your normal riding position, directing clean air up and over the helmet without creating a turbulent bubble. Riders over six feet typically need a taller shield than the stock option on most Touring models. Many manufacturers offer the same windshield in multiple heights so you can select based on your specific measurements.

Can I add a fairing to a Harley-Davidson Dyna or Softail that did not come with one from the factory?

Yes. Bolt-on fairing kits are available for many Dyna and Softail models that allow you to add a headlight fairing, quarter fairing, or batwing-style fairing without permanent modification to the frame or forks. Fork-mounted fairings attach to the lower legs and move with the front wheel, while frame-mounted fairings attach to the frame and stay fixed during steering. Frame-mounted fairings generally provide better wind protection and a more integrated look but require more involved installation. Fork-mounted options are simpler to install and remove. Confirm that the fairing kit you are considering is specifically engineered for your model year and fork diameter before ordering as fitment varies significantly across the Dyna and Softail lineups.
