Specialty Tools & Equipment
Generic hand tools get you started but powersports work demands purpose-built specialty tools engineered for the specific jobs that come up on dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs, street bikes, and snowmobiles. Mad Lads Moto stocks the specialty tools that serious DIY mechanics rely on: flywheel pullers, clutch holding tools, fork spring compressors, fork seal drivers, spoke torque wrenches, bearing drivers, valve spring compressors, chain breaker and rivet tools, and carb sync tools. The right specialty tool protects expensive components from damage, keeps critical tolerances in spec, and turns a frustrating job into a clean and repeatable process.
What is a flywheel puller and when do I need one?
A flywheel puller is a threaded tool that attaches to the flywheel rotor on a powersports engine and uses mechanical force to separate it cleanly from the crankshaft taper without damaging either component. You need one any time you are replacing a stator, inspecting the woodruff key, or accessing components behind the flywheel. Attempting to remove a flywheel without the correct puller by prying or striking it risks cracking the rotor, damaging the crankshaft taper, or destroying the woodruff key slot. Flywheel pullers are machine-specific in their thread pitch and diameter, so confirm compatibility with your make and model before ordering.
Do I need a chain breaker tool to replace a drive chain?
Yes. A chain breaker and rivet tool is essential for properly removing and installing a drive chain with a press-fit rivet master link, which is the standard on performance and OEM chains across most powersports applications. A quality chain tool breaks the old chain cleanly, presses the new master link side plate to the correct width, and peens the rivet to the proper flare diameter so the link cannot come apart under load. Attempting to rivet a master link with a hammer and punch is imprecise and risks an under-riveted link that can fail at speed, which is a serious safety hazard.
