The ProTaper Yamaha YZ250 Rear Aluminum Sprocket - 49 Teeth - Black is a Race Spec (RS) series rear sprocket machined from 7075-T6 heat-treated billet aluminum and built in the USA for riders who put their bikes through serious conditions. ProTaper cuts angled mud grooves into both sides of every tooth, which sheds mud during riding and increases tooth surface area by up to 40% compared to competing sprockets, extending chain contact and sprocket life. A deep-penetrating anodized finish guards against corrosion and wear, and countersinks built into the sprocket self-center it on the hub during installation without needing a separate hub center guide. It fits the Yamaha YZ250 and a wide range of other Yamaha two-strokes and four-strokes, as well as select Honda models.

A 49-tooth rear sprocket raises gearing compared to a smaller rear sprocket, which generally means less snap off the line but a higher potential top speed. Stepping down in tooth count lowers gearing for snappier acceleration, while stepping up raises it further.
